Installation info for Dana 44 outer knuckles
After new ball joints are pressed in.
With the new pre-load sleeve installed but flush with the top of the knuckle, set your knuckle on and put the top nut on first and tighten it up so that it seats the lower ball joint into the knuckle (no torque yet)
Then torque the lower ball joint to 80 ft lbs.
Remove the top nut.
Then the pre load sleeve to 50 ft lbs using the special tool.
Finally torque the top nut to 100 ft lbs.
If you have a fish scale it should take 20-30 lbs of force to turn it and it should be smooth from lock to lock. No scale, with one hand you should be able to move it thru its range with light-medium effort. If the cotter pin does not line up tighten it more to get the pin alignment hole to line up...NEVER loosen to install a cotter pin.
